IBS : Irritable Bowl Syndrome


Those who have this, they know how difficult to live with it. IBS is one of those most troubling psychosomatic disorders with symptoms including : Irregular bowl movements including constipation and diarrhea , abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion etc. Anxiety and stress are the common factor mostly associated with IBS. 

Causes of IBS is actually not recognized, though Stress, Bacterial infection, wrong food habits, food allergies, could be the reasons. Handling IBS is itself a stress full situation when irregular bowl movement cause problem in routine to follow specially at work place and other out door stays. 

How to manage is the concern for all, we all know there is no sound and single line of treatment is there for IBS due to its complexity of symptoms and causes. Food and lifestyle modification are the key components to keep control over symptoms those disturb in daily living. Sometime patients focus on gut flora, which really help but not always it would be the answer for everyone, depending on the cause treatment and nutrition need to be planned. 

Food modification as per symptoms, including soluble dietary fiber, food that help to maintain transition time are good to gain good control over irregular bowl system. Stool bulk and consistency is maintained by keeping food in preference that really suits to the individual body as per symptom. Consulting a nutritionist make significant positive change.

Few steps to deign path for IBS management are : 

- list food that cause trouble to you 

- find out your stressors 

- Write down daily routine and activities 

- Maintain activity and food log 

- Maintain food list those suits you 

- Check your sleep, water intake and plan your wellness regime 

Should avoid : 

- Refined flour, refined sugar, refined oil, preservatives , packed foods, cookies and other preparations contain backing soda and other agents that really irritate gut. 

- Clear juice, soft drinks, alcohol, smoking etc.

- Late night working and disturbed sleep cause many problems, GI disturb very much due to wrong sleep patterns. 

- Adopting food plans based on self search based to random suggestions given by anyone or internet surfing. IBS is an individual concern, it need customized nutrition and food management. depending upon the causes, symptoms diet plan need to be suggested by dietitian. So always consult first to avoid further complications.
